Security
To say that South Africa does not have a crime issue would not be 100% correct however this is concentrated mainly in the cities, luckily in most rural areas including the Garden Route crime levels are relatively low.
However we recommend that tourists should blend in with the South Africans
- Jewellery – leave your Rolex’s at home – do not be flashy
- Motor cars – do not leave valuables visible in your car when not in attendance – keep as much in your boot
- Cash – you can get buy with carrying little cash – most cards are accepted and cash can easily be withdrawn at Autotellers
Self driving
We recommend self driving – if needed we can organize transport as needed
Driving in South Africa is straightforward, due to its well-developed road network. The roads along this route are good quality, wide tar roads, and there is little other traffic. In South Africa one drives on the left hand side.
It isn’t necessary to have a 4×4 vehicle, unless you’d prefer more space.
- Plan your route, set up your GPS (which we recommend) before starting out
- Make sure you have enough petrol in your car
- Get to your destinations well before dark
- Ask your hosts if you are unsure of where you would like to go and how to get from A to B
- Ensure you have your drivers license with you and it is recommend to drive with the defined speed limits at all times – in Plettenberg Bay area there are numerous speed traps installed.
